Knowing when your insurance coverage begins helps you plan for appointments, prescriptions, and everything in between. Here's how to find your start date.
If you're enrolling during Open Enrollment, your coverage begins on the first day of your employer's new plan year. For most employers, that's January 1. So if you're enrolling for the 2027 plan year, your coverage would start on January 1, 2027. However, some employers have other start dates, so check with your employer or benefits enrollment platform.
If you're a new hire, your start date depends on your employer's waiting period. Some employers start coverage on your first day, and others start it on the first of the month after a set number of days. Your HR team can confirm your exact date, and it's usually listed in your benefits enrollment platform.
Here's the most important part to know: choosing plans in Nayya doesn't start your coverage. We help you compare your options and find the plans that fit your health and financial situation, but your official enrollment happens on your company's benefits platform, sometimes called a benefits administrator or BenAdmin. Common examples are Workday, ADP, and Sequoia. When you're ready, click Proceed to Enrollment at the end of your Nayya recommendations to get there.
Your coverage won't take effect until you complete that enrollment, so don't stop at your Nayya recommendations. Once you've enrolled, your benefits platform will show your confirmed elections and effective date.
